Job Summary
Director of Development serves as technical lead for the CME product portfolio (CloudCME, Rievent, eeds), directing design, development, and maintenance to align with HealthStream’s platform strategy. Bridges legacy technology landscapes to the HealthStream stack (React UIs, Python/C# .NET Core microservices, AWS, Snowflake data pipelines), estimates feature scope, drives architectural decisions, ensures quality and security compliance, and guides integration with product management, solution engineers, and senior developers. Leads technical design, coordinates cross-disciplinary efforts, oversees software releases, manages recruiting and mentoring of staff, and collaborates with stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver scalable, secure software across healthcare applications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; commensurate experience considered
- At least 6 years of experience in software development
- At least 4 years of experience as a development leader
- Agile/SCRUM experience preferred
- Experience managing 3rd party software vendors and contractors
- Healthcare technology familiarity preferred (FHIR, HL7, HIPAA)
- Frontend: React (TypeScript preferred), HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript
- Backend: Python and/or C#/.NET Core, RESTful APIs, microservices
- Cloud: AWS (ECS/Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway), RDS/PostgreSQL or Aurora, S3, SQS/SNS
- Data/Analytics: Snowflake, SQL, ETL/ELT
- DevOps/CI-CD: GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Docker, Terraform
- Security & DevSecOps practices
- Architectural design, SOLID principles
- Collaboration with QA, architects, and stakeholders
- Strong communication and leadership capabilities
- Budgetary and organizational input
- Experience with Salesforce platform development and integrations (preferred)
