Job Summary

Draft, review, and negotiate construction, design, engineering, and procurement contracts for large-scale data center developments. Partner with the SVP of Construction, SVP of Design & Innovation, and Chief Delivery Officer to support project execution, advising on risk allocation, contract structuring, and commercial strategy. Manage external counsel, coordinate on construction claims, disputes, delays, and change orders, and provide guidance to internal teams on contract interpretation and risk mitigation. Contribute to developing legal processes, templates, and best practices as the function scales. This role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on critical infrastructure projects, requiring 8–10+ years of construction law experience and a J.D. from a top-tier law school. Located in Seattle, WA, the Director reports to a Blue Owl Capital-backed team in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of relevant legal experience
  • J.D. from a top-tier law school
  • Significant experience in construction law, including drafting and negotiating construction, design, engineering, and procurement agreements
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale infrastructure or real estate development projects, preferably on behalf of owners, developers, or sponsors
  • Experience advising on construction claims, disputes, and risk management
  • Experience with change order management and claims avoidance
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Experience negotiating commercial agreements and serving as a primary point of contact for business stakeholders
  • In-house legal experience
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with business teams
  • Strong intellectual, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, operate in a fast-paced environment, and balance multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to build relationships and establish credibility with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, including construction and delivery professionals
  • Experience working with and managing outside counsel effectively and efficiently
  • Strong business acumen and a track record of acting as a trusted advisor in a high-growth or entrepreneurial environment
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and operate both strategically and tactically as part of a lean legal team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to negotiate effectively and influence outcomes
  • A high degree of ownership, accountability, sound judgment, and professionalism
  • Collaborative, low ego, and team-oriented approach with a strong sense of initiative and curiosity
  • Location: Seattle, WA (3+ days/week in office)

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience advising on construction claims, disputes, and risk management, with litigation experience
  • Familiarity with data center development and/or digital infrastructure projects
  • Experience in a private equity-backed company or similarly dynamic environment
