Job Summary
Director of Communications for the West leads the regional communications team within the broader marketing organization. Responsible for establishing and growing the regional Communications team, driving programming strategies to deliver high-impact EMO results, and coordinating with Brand, Field, Sports, Culture, and On-Premise Marketing. Handles communications planning, campaign execution, thought leadership, media relations, and agency/vendor management (photographers, editors, and other partners). Develops the regional media plan, oversees always-on media activity and crisis communications, builds strong editorial storytelling, manages the regional budget, and collaborates with Santa Monica leadership to align regional efforts with global brand strategy. Requires senior leadership capabilities, excellent presentation skills, deep knowledge of traditional and digital media, and a track record of delivering results in a fast-paced, consumer-driven environment. Lives and breathes media in the US and brings a strong network of editors, journalists, freelance writers, social producers, and photographers to life, ensuring the West region’s communications plan supports marketing objectives and drives consumer engagement.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years’ experience in a Senior Communications role for a major brand
- Bachelor of Business, Communications or Journalism is preferred
- Strong editorial skills and ability to identify best stories and create differentiated experiences
- Proven leadership and ability to build and motivate teams
- Experience managing media relations across traditional and digital channels
- Experience partnering with Marketing teams (Brand, Field Marketing, Sports Marketing, Culture Marketing, On-Premise Marketing)
- Experience with agency and vendor management (photographers, editors, freelance writers)
- Ability to develop and manage regional communications budgets
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to align communications with business goals
- Comfort with crisis communication and real-time media insights
