Director, Banking and Payments IT M&A – Due Diligence, Integration and Separation – Strategy

Job Summary
Lead and oversee Buy-Side and Sell-Side IT due diligence across banking/payments platforms and ecosystems, identify IT risks and opportunities, and deliver executive-level recommendations. Direct IT integration and separation initiatives for banking/payments transactions, including planning through execution, with current-state assessments, entanglement identification, operating model definitions, and Day One/post-close plans. Develop go-to-market strategies for Technology Mergers and Acquisitions offerings in payments/fintech, provide thought leadership on architectures (card networks, core banking, fraud platforms, cloud-native stacks), and establish governance and risk management processes. Mentor junior staff, collaborate with CIO/CTO and payments product leaders, and apply AI-powered tools to enhance timelines and risk predictions. Willingness to travel; role requires alignment with KPMG’s governance, ethics, and collaboration standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum eight years of recent experience in technology consulting and/or technology leadership with a track record of IT transformations and advising on complex M&A transactions
- Master’s of Business Administration preferred; Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or related field required
- Experience leading IT integration/separation, platform migration, IT architecture modernization, outsourcing of IT operations, or regulatory technology implementation
- Proven ability to lead complex IT-focused M&A engagements in Financial Services (banking/payments) including pre- and post-deal work
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and cross-functional team mentoring capabilities
- Familiarity with AI-powered tools for due diligence, synergy analysis, and integration/separation planning
- Knowledge of core banking/payments platforms, data landscape, and relevant data platforms
- Ability to travel as needed; US work authorization without sponsorship now or in the future
- Willingness to engage with executive stakeholders (CIOs, CTOs, payments product leaders) and perform market-facing activities
