Director, Arctic & Northern Waters (Fisheries)

Job Summary
Design and lead Ocean Conservancy's Arctic fisheries portfolio, formulating high-impact, science and Indigenous knowledge-based initiatives to protect biodiversity and ecosystem resilience across Alaska and the U.S. Arctic. Manage a small team while coordinating with Tribal partners, Indigenous organizations, and coalition members to advance sustainable fisheries management grounded in Indigenous leadership. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, advocate policy positions in administrative venues, and develop communications plans to build support for conservation objectives. Contribute to fundraising materials, grant proposals, and budget tracking with the Development team. Work closely with fellow Directors across the Arctic & Northern Waters team to ensure coordinated strategies. Requires seven years in fisheries science or law, experience with Alaska Arctic stakeholders, and a Master's degree. Salary range $120,000 - $150,000 annually. Hybrid work environment with regular travel to remote Alaska and international conferences.
Required Qualifications
- At least seven years of professional experience in fisheries science or law, marine biodiversity, ecosystem-based management, conservation, public policy, research or a related field
- experience working on Alaska or Arctic fisheries
- connections with Arctic and Alaska stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience building and leading high-impact campaigns, coalitions and partnerships that achieve conservation goals
- ability to motivate a small team
- ability to coordinate across a larger, multi-disciplinary organization
- Demonstrated experience and genuine commitment to integrating Indigenous knowledge alongside western science
- track record of building respectful, trust-based relationships with Alaska Native Tribes, Indigenous organizations and Arctic Indigenous communities
- Working knowledge of the administrative, legislative, judicial and regulatory processes affecting fisheries management
- experience engaging in regulatory venues

- Strong communication and advocacy skills across written, verbal and public-facing formats
