Job Summary
Director, Applied AI Research at Snorkel AI leading a team focused on data-centric research to shape data-powered AI systems. Responsibilities include recruiting and leading an applied research team, serving as the primary liaison between Research, Product, and Engineering, overseeing experimental POCs to improve workflows, collaborating with academic and industry AI labs to define data-centric techniques for next-generation foundation models, strategic roadmapping to anticipate bottlenecks in AI data and pivoting the programmatic solutions, and partnering with Operations to validate research-driven workflows in real-world production environments. The role requires 5+ years in applied AI/ML with 4+ years in technical-team management, a hands-on approach to coding and research, comfort with fast-paced, cross-functional environments, and strong experience with LLMs and agentic workflows.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in applied AI, research or machine learning roles, with at least 4+ years of experience managing technical teams
- hands-on coding, research, and customer-facing engagements
- ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and manage competing priorities across Product, Engineering, and GTM
- strong practical experience with LLMs and agentic workflows
- bonus: experience with data annotation workflows and/or building internal tooling for them
