Job Summary
The Director, Advanced Practice Provider leads both clinical operations and administrative oversight for organ recovery and donor management. The role directs advanced practice providers in performing and supervising complex procedures (e.g., liver biopsies, bronchoscopy, invasive line placements) to ensure optimal transplantable organ outcomes while also managing scheduling, budgeting, onboarding, mentorship, and recruitment. Collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and clinical leadership to align recovery operations with regulatory requirements and organizational strategy, represents STA regionally/nationally, and drives quality, policy development, and performance improvements across contracted services. Key responsibilities include providing medical consultation to donor families, coordinating care across physicians, APPs, nurses, and hospital partners; overseeing clinical staffing and coverage; ensuring compliance with CMS, OPTN/UNOS, HIPAA, OSHA, and other standards; leading process improvements, case reviews, and competency validation; guiding donor candidacy decisions; and supporting research opportunities and adoption of advanced technologies (e.g., ECMO, NRP). Must maintain BLS/ACLS certifications and possess strong knowledge of organ procurement regulations and governance, with leadership experience and a commitment to professional development and organizational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing with an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner board certification or Physician Assistant (PA-C) licensure
- Doctorate degree in Nursing is preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of OPO experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a critical care role
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Strong working knowledge of organ procurement and transplantation processes and regulations, including federal and state regulations and industry standards regarding organ procurement
- Current Driver’s License with acceptable driving record
