Job Summary

Direct the work of a team of actuaries and non-actuaries while managing long-term projects and work streams. Set strategy for success in the area, develop compelling written and oral presentations for high-level decision-making, and ensure appropriate modeling and compliance with Actuarial Standards of Practice. Drive continuous improvement culture, oversee annual budget allocation, and translate initiatives into business cases supported by cost-benefit analyses. Communicate effectively across the company and with external parties to drive information delivery. Requires expert-level understanding of actuarial concepts, multiple areas, and at least one business segment. This hybrid role involves 3 days in office.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Economics
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
  • Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA)
  • 4 years of actuarial experience in the health insurance field at the ASA level
  • At least 7 years of actuarial experience in the health insurance or related field
  • Verbal and written communications skills to prepare effective documentation, facilitate training and development, and participate in presentations
  • PC proficiency to include Word and Excel
  • Expert level understanding of actuarial concepts
  • Expert level understanding of multiple actuarial areas
  • Expert level understanding of at least one business segment
  • Ability to recommend a course of action based on 360 view of the business
  • Ability to develop compelling written and oral presentations that clearly drive the delivery of information for high-level decision making
  • Ability to determine strategies to develop and improve key relationships in the areas and with external areas
  • Ability to determine all areas where key relationships should exist
  • Ability to direct the work of a team of actuaries and possibly non-actuaries
  • Ability to manage long term projects and work streams
  • Ability to set the strategy for success in the area
  • Ability to manage and develop a team of Managers and potentially some analysts
  • Ability to support, guide and prepare managers for difficult conversations with staff
  • Ability to drive and demonstrate a continuous improvement culture in the department
  • Ability to oversee the annual budget and allocate resources for various projects and operational needs
  • Ability to translate needs and initiatives into compelling business cases
  • Ability to conduct cost-benefit analyses to justify investments and ensure ROI
  • This is a hybrid role, in office 3 days/week

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Individual and Small Group health insurance products including level-funded products
  • Knowledge of ACA market dynamics
