Job Summary
Direct Support Specialist in a Connecticut group-home setting with evenings/late afternoons and 26 hours per week. Responsibilities include assisting individuals with activities of daily living (getting dressed, cooking, cleaning, bathing, toileting), transporting people, organizing activities and community outings, medication administration and attending doctors’ appointments, documenting program data, teaching and engaging participants, implementing routines, supporting decision-making, grocery shopping, de-escalating situations, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong emphasis on professional communication with nurses, clinical staff, directors and supervisors. Training is provided in person-centered planning, CPR/First Aid, human rights, HIPAA/compliance, and medication administration. Requires at least a High School Diploma (or equivalent), 3 years of driving experience with a valid license, behavioral management experience or training, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. PMT, CPR, FA and DDS MAP completion are required; candidate must be free from communicable disease. Equal employment opportunity applies to all applicants.
Required Qualifications

- Behavioral Management Experience and/or formal training
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- PMT, CPR, FA and complete DDS Medication Administration Program (MAP)
- Must be free from communicable disease
