Job Summary

Provide one-to-one support and supervision for clients with specialized medical or behavioral needs, implementing their Individual Plans and Behavior Support Strategies. Actively engage clients in daily meaningful activities, including community outings, volunteering, swimming, and outdoor programs. Maintain a safe environment by assisting with personal care tasks, responding to emergency behavioral incidents, and intervening using applied CPI techniques. Complete all required documentation, including data sheets, incident reports, and attendance records, while participating as an active member of the interdisciplinary team. Maintain accurate records of client medical and dietary support needs.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate/GED transcript
  • Valid, unexpired, Illinois driver's license
  • Good driving record as defined by AID's driver eligibility requirements
  • Minimum liability insurance as defined by AID's personnel policy
  • Ability to transport clients in agency and/or personal vehicle as assigned
  • Minimum age requirement is 18 years old
  • Complete DHS-approved Direct Support Person (DSP) training within 120 days of hire OR have already completed DSP training and appears on the Health Care Worker Registry
  • Complete and maintain assigned trainings and certifications as required by program location
  • Ability to complete job requirements with minimal supervision
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention when needed
  • Work as part of a team to support individuals with complex needs
  • Attend in-service trainings as required
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate proficient computer skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Maintain professional interaction with co-workers and supervisory staff
  • Must be able to push, pull, reach, stoop, and bend
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs, with no physical or medical restrictions
  • Must be able to assist individuals with their physical needs and personal care
  • Must be able to perform a two-person lift or transfer, with no physical or medical restrictions
  • Must be able to intervene physically using applied CPI techniques and/or restraints after training, with no physical or medical restrictions
  • Must be able to maintain a safe environment for self and clients
  • Must be able to react appropriately to emergency situations
  • Must be able to remain informed of assigned clients medical and dietary support needs
  • Must be able to provide those supports daily and consistently
  • Must be able to understand and implement objectives, support needs, and personal goals from Implementation Strategies or Individual Plans for clients as assigned
  • Must be able to understand and implement Behavior Support Strategies as assigned
  • Must be able to respond to emergency behavioral incidents should they occur
  • Must be able to provide one-to-one support and supervision as defined in the client's Implementation Strategies or Individual Plan and Behavior Support Strategies
  • Must be able to actively engage, teach, and involve clients in daily, meaningful activities in a variety of settings
  • Must be able to participate in all program activities alongside clients
  • Must be able to facilitate programming or activities as directed
  • Must be able to complete and submit all required documentation in a timely manner
  • Must be able to work cooperatively and respectfully with others
  • Must be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to use a PC computer and printer
  • Must be able to use household appliances competently and safely
  • Must be able to use a phone and voicemail system
  • Must be able to use office equipment such as copy machines, calculators, shredder or fax machine
  • Must be able to use adaptive equipment as assigned
  • Must be able to use a walkie talkie or intercom system when assigned
  • Must be able to work Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Desired Qualifications

  • Autism training/certification
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
  • Experience working with people requiring specialized behavioral and/or medical supports
