Job Summary
Direct Support Professional provides personal support in the residence of a person served, supervises and trains adults with developmental disabilities to promote growth toward their highest potential, follows individualized program plans, teaches independent living skills, administers medications as ordered, ensures safety and cleanliness, completes records and reports, transports individuals to appointments and activities, and collaborates with nurses and staff. Must be flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays; requires knowledge of CPR and emergency procedures; maintains professional, respectful interactions with persons served and families; participates in team meetings and adheres to agency policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must have a driver’s license and acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the Agency’s insurance carrier and by Agency policy
- Must be able to lift, pull, and push adequate weight to assist individuals supported (may be more than 50 pounds)
- Note: At the discretion of the Personnel Officer, additional related experience and/or education may be substituted in place of the requirements specified above under Education and Experience
