Direct Support Professional - Manchester, CT (40 hrs/wk)

Job Summary

Provide daily instruction and assistance for individuals with intellectual disabilities, including meal planning, medication administration, personal hygiene, and transportation. Manage financial records, conduct home maintenance, and accompany clients to medical appointments while maintaining strict confidentiality. Complete shift documentation for behavior plans, incident reports, and nursing logs, and report observations to the manager. Ensure emergency coverage as needed and demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures. Maintain positive relationships with families and community providers while adhering to all agency policies and training requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Current driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
  • Ability to bend, push, pull and lift
  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, walking
  • Must be able to effectively work with or without direct supervision
  • Must be able to work cooperatively within a team setting
  • Must be able to handle crisis situations calmly and professionally
  • Must be able to interact with others in a courteous and professional manner
  • Must be able to adapt to the flexible nature of the job
  • Must be able to work in a busy and fast paced environment
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Understanding of basic concepts of personal care, housekeeping and other care areas
  • Intermediate technology and computer ability
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with people who are intellectually/developmentally disabled preferred
  • At least one year experience preferred
