Job Summary
Direct Support Professional responsible for providing direct care to individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities in a residential setting. Primary responsibilities include personal care and health support (hygiene, grooming, toileting, medication administration per AMAP, vital signs, medical appointments), meal preparation and safe food handling, maintaining a safe and organized living environment (housekeeping, fire safety, minor maintenance), promoting independence and community integration through skill-building and supports for employment, transportation, and social activities, supporting interpersonal communication, money management, and leisure activities, observing, documenting, and reporting progress, participating in program planning, team meetings, and staff training, applying approved behavior management techniques, and responding to emergencies. Knowledge of OPWDD policies and regulations, understanding active treatment principles, strong communication and teamwork, ability to work independently, and ability to assist individuals with mobility and personal care are required. The role requires on-site work in a residential Bronx setting with variable schedules.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Direct Support Professional (DSP) Certificate
- AMAP Certification (within 6 months)
- SCIP-R Certification (within 6 months)
- CPR and First Aid Certification (within 6 months)
- Valid New York State Driver’s License (may be required)
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Residential setting experience (preferred)
