Job Summary
Direct Support Professional to assist a non-speaking UCLA honors student with daily living supports in Los Angeles. Responsibilities include listening to nonverbal, verbal, and typing communication; using AAC tools to support social interactions; creating conversational space to include and support communication; providing verbal and/or physical prompts to help the individual achieve goals; fostering meaningful connections and social confidence; facilitating social outings to restaurants, classes, and medical appointments; attending academic, medical, occupational, and personal events; collaborating with Circle of Support to support self-expression, well-being, and advocacy; assisting with activities including academic classes, physical exercise, virtual connections, and social events; following best practices of communication supports to promote self-advocacy, self-determination, and independence; learning needs, wants, and feelings; maintaining a safe environment in line with ETTA policies; attending monthly staff meetings to support the disability community.
