Job Summary
Direct Support Professional provides meaningful, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, implementing individualized plans and behavior support plans across multiple settings. Responsibilities include teaching daily living skills, assisting with transportation, documenting progress, maintaining confidentiality, monitoring health needs, supporting healthcare visits and medications, ensuring safety, and mentoring/training staff to uphold agency values. Requires promoting rights, dignity, and respectful communication while following agency policies, HIPAA protections, and state training requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred (GED) with mandatory exceptions per Ohio DODD for medication administration or Independent Provider roles
- Experience working with individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities; prefer 1 year
- Ability to pass criminal registry, background checks and other checks deemed necessary
- Valid driver’s license, insured vehicle, and safe driving record
- Basic language, written and computer skills for communication and documentation
- Ability to support individuals with challenging behavior and/or medical concerns
- Successful completion and maintenance of required trainings including CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, Positive Behavioral Support Training, and any agency-mandated trainings
