Job Summary
Provide daily instruction and assistance for individuals with intellectual disabilities, including meal planning, medication administration, transportation, and personal hygiene. Manage personal appointments, social commitments, and home maintenance while ensuring dietary guidelines and safety protocols are followed. Complete all necessary documentation, including behavior plans, nursing logs, incident reports, and financial records, while maintaining confidentiality. Maintain positive relationships with families and advocates, accompany individuals to medical appointments, and responsibly manage petty cash. Respond to crisis situations calmly and demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Current driver's license
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Ability to bend, push, pull and lift
- Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, walking
- Must be able to effectively work with or without direct supervision
- Must be able to work cooperatively within a team setting
- Must be able to handle crisis situations calmly and professionally
- Must be able to interact with others in a courteous and professional manner
- Must be able to adapt to the flexible nature of the job
- Must be able to work in a busy and fast paced environment
- Must be able to provide daily instruction and assistance in accordance with each person's individual need
- Must be able to plan and prepare meals and follow dietary guidelines
- Must be able to administer medication
- Must be able to manage money and make purchases of personal items
- Must be able to provide transportation
- Must be able to maintain records of supported individual(s) care, conditions, progress, or problems
- Must be able to ensure confidentiality of individuals supported and the agency
- Must be able to maintain positive and diplomatic relationships with families, advocates and friends
- Must be able to read all daily communications
- Must be able to communicate problems/ concerns involving individuals supported in the program to the support manager
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures
- Must be able to respond appropriately to emergency situations
- Must be able to attend and participate in required staff meetings
- Must be able to provide emergency coverage as needed
- Must be able to successfully meet and maintain the requirements of all certifications and training as established by regulatory bodies and the agency's policies and procedures
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with people who are intellectually/developmentally disabled
- Understanding of basic concepts of personal care, housekeeping and other care areas
- Intermediate technology and computer ability
- At least one year experience
