Job Summary
Facilitate daily care needs, department procedures, and programmatic outcomes for autistic students while collaborating with staff to maintain regular schedules and daily living activities. Build trusting relationships with students to promote self-advocacy, independence, and the development of life skills, while managing challenging behaviors using de-escalation techniques in high-stress situations. Transport students in a company vehicle to day-to-day activities and complete administrative tasks including shift logs, maintenance requests, and incident reports. Support individualized ITEP goals by documenting progress and tracking concerns with the ITEP team. This full-time residential role at Shrub Oak International School in Westchester County requires a valid driver's license, crisis management experience, and the physical ability to ambulate across hills, stairs, and gravel paths. Candidates must pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training (TCIS) and hold a current CPR/First Aid certification.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent
- 1 year of work experience in a high-volume/demanding customer service or human service position
- Crisis management and de-escalation experience
- Must be able to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass and gravel
- Must be able to react and move quickly during student crisis, both for the safety of the student and for the staff
- Must be able to run across the campus and throughout the school to catch/monitor an eloping student, and/or to remove yourself from an unsafe situation
- Must be able to bend, stretch, sit, stand, crouch or kneel for sustained periods of time if implementing a hold
- Must be able to pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools)
- Must be able to pass a DMV driving abstract
- Valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
- At least 3 years of work experience in a high-volume/demanding customer service or human service position
- EMT/EMS, CNA/HHA/PCA, or similar experience
- Valid driver's license with the ability to pass a DMV driving abstract preferred; the ability to transport students in a company vehicle, may be required
- Experience handling aggressive clients/customers
- assisting with hygiene and personal care activities
- You have a passion for working with the autism population and ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff
- strong written communication skills for documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and administrative tasks including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
- strong verbal communication skills to engage effectively with students, staff, and external contacts in a positive and professional manner to build relationships
- You have strong critical thinking and analytical skills along with resilience and composure, processing information efficiently, especially in crisis situations
- Must be able to transport students in a company vehicle to day to day activities as required
