Job Summary
Advocate for, encourage, guide, and teach individuals with developmental disabilities to express personal choice, develop daily living skills, and maintain personal hygiene. Assure community integration, ensure health and safety, and maintain a healthy, safe home environment in residential or program settings. Provide direct care to assist individuals in attending to personal daily living needs while further developing vocational, nutritional, social, and personal skills for maximum independence. This role requires a valid New York State driver's license and ability to stand for up to four hours, ascend and descend stairs, and lift 40 lbs. Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and complete orientation. Successful applicants will pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and SEL and MHL checks. Starting salary is $18.00 per hour with excellent benefits, paid holidays, and PTO.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State
- Possession of a high school or a high school equivalency diploma (such as a GED) or higher
- Successful completion of the Direct Support Professional orientation
- Clearance from the New York State Child Abuse Registry
- SEL and MHL checks
- Criminal background check
- Drug screening
- Must be able to stand for up to 4 hours at a time
- Must be able to ascend and descend two flights of stairs numerous times in one shift
- Must be able to walk, run, kneel, bend, and sit
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40lbs
- Must be able to see and speak
