Job Summary
Provide skill-building services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, fostering independence in home and community settings. Assist with developing Staff Action Plans and ensure goals regarding socialization, academics, and daily living are addressed with maximum independence. Act as an advocate for self-advocacy and decision-making while maintaining professional relationships with clients, coworkers, and other agencies. Ensure safety and well-being at all times, following incident reporting procedures for reportable events. Complete required documentation including service notes, timesheets, and billing forms, and communicate weekly progress updates to the program supervisor. Maintain confidentiality and model agency values while adhering to OPWDD regulations and mandatory background checks.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have a favorable result from all state, federal, and agency mandated background checks
- Must be computer literate
- Must have a computer and access to the internet
- Must be able to work flexible hours
- Must be able to physically assist non-ambulatory individuals
- Must be able to lift without medical restrictions
- Must be capable of using public transportation
- Must comply with OPWDD regulations
- Must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills
- Must maintain a general working knowledge of community resources
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Human Services or related field
- 1-year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
- AMAP/SCIP/CPR Certification
- It is recommended that specialists are tested for the communicable disease of tuberculosis by receiving a PPD test
