Job Summary
Provide respectful, person-centered direct care and support to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities in residential and community-based settings. Assist with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, meals, and daily routines. Support individuals with grocery shopping, meal preparation, household tasks, budgeting, recreational activities, and community participation. Implement individualized service plans, behavioral support programs, teaching strategies, exercise programs, dietary instructions, and other recommended supports. Safely assist with mobility, lifting, transfers, repositioning, and adaptive equipment according to each person's service plan. Complete accurate documentation, including progress notes, communication logs, electronic records, medication records, incident reports, and safety documentation. Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment. Follow agency policies, program procedures, and required health and safety practices. Depending on the assigned program, the position may include daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Paid training is provided.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Connecticut Driver's License
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation
- Ability to safely assist with lifting, transfers, mobility, and personal care when required by the program
- Dependability, patience, professionalism, and a commitment to treating every person with dignity and respect
- Connecticut Department of Developmental Services Medication Certification
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Physical/Psychological Management Training, or PMT
- Connecticut Public Service License, when required by the program
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a DSP, direct care worker, caregiver, residential counselor, personal care assistant (PCA), home health aide (HHA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), behavioral health technician, or human services professional
