Job Summary
As a Direct Support Professional, you will assist individuals in maximizing their strengths and interests while providing emotional support and building positive relationships. Responsibilities include supervising and caring for individuals, supporting personal goals, facilitating activities, and ensuring health and safety through appropriate supervision. You will implement person-centered plans, assist with daily living tasks like personal care and hygiene, manage medication administration, and transport individuals to various appointments. The role requires effective communication and documentation skills, a willingness to engage with individuals with I/DD, and compliance with various training and certification requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to meet essential physical demands of position including frequent walking, sitting, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Enthusiasm for working with people with I/DD
- Ability and willingness to assist with a variety of supports and ADLs
- Basic computer skills
- Must hold or obtain SCIP-R certification within one (1) year
- Must hold or obtain additional certifications based on program assignment within one (1) year
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and work in a high energy environment
Desired Qualifications
- HS diploma or its educational equivalent
- Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities
