Job Summary
Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Day and Older Adult Programs provides hands-on care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Supports participants with activities of daily living, promotes safety and dignity, observes and documents progress, and assists with skill-building activities and rehabilitation curricula. Responsible for reporting incidents, maintaining confidentiality, performing required safety procedures, and adhering to HIPAA standards. Requires High School Diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, post-offer physical and drug test, and background/child abuse clearances. Training and a flexible schedule are provided; position located at Cowpath Road Campus with community participation locations in Souderton, PA.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience working with individuals experiencing Intellectual Disabilities preferred
- Valid driver’s license with a clear three-year driving record
- Post-offer pre-employment physical exam and drug test as required
- Completion and clearance of a criminal background check and a child abuse clearance
- HIPAA training/compliance
- Ability to read and write in English
- Moderate mathematics skills
- Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
- Auditory and visual skills
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds (including transferring of client)
- Ability to perform physical duties and mobility requirements of the job
- Demonstrates ability to use mechanical lifting devices and safety procedures
- Provides medical assistance as trained (First Aid/CPR/Heimlich maneuvers) as required
- Maintains confidentiality and safety standards
