Job Summary
Direct Support Professional in a residential setting provides habilitation services and direct care to individuals served. Responsibilities include communicating pertinent information to staff, responding to inquiries, documenting activities per shift, promoting resident rights, privacy, dignity, and safety, and assisting with daily activities. Essential duties encompass individualized care to promote physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being; aiding with grooming, bathing, feeding, toileting, transfers, and use of lifting devices; administering medications and providing basic emergency care (CPR/First Aid/Heimlich as trained); maintaining housekeeping, transportation support, and compliance with safety and infection control procedures; documenting accurately and participating in regular meetings and training (24 hours annually). Positions are full-time or part-time core hours established upon hire, with location assignment based on program needs; at-will employment acknowledged.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Certification as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) or willingness to obtain
- Ability to assist with lifting and transfers
- CPR/First Aid trained or willing to become certified
- Knowledge of HIPAA and privacy protections
- Ability to work in a residential setting and promote resident rights
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to document activities accurately
- Flexibility to work shifts including weekends as needed
