Job Summary
Direct Support Professional (DSP) at RHA Health Services provides hands-on support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or mental health/substance use challenges in home and community settings. Responsibilities include assisting with communication of needs, promoting wellness, fostering self-advocacy, accompanying individuals to community activities, teaching independent living skills, providing safe transportation, supporting decision-making about living arrangements and social relationships, assisting with personal care and household tasks, documenting services, facilitating connections to educational, volunteer, and career opportunities, promoting respectful and inclusive interactions, and administering medications where allowed by state regulations. The role requires safeguarding confidentiality, adhering to ethical standards, and performing duties under supervision. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, minimum age of 18, successful pre-employment screenings, valid driver’s license, ability to lift up to 20 pounds (and up to 40 pounds as needed), CPR proficiency, ASL fluency for Deaf/Hard of Hearing programs, and compliance with background checks and credentialing as required. Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Meet all pre-employment screening
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs regularly and up to 40 lbs occasionally
- CPR proficiency (from floor level) with ASL requirement for Deaf and Hard of Hearing programs
- Clear background checks including OIG, Child Abuse Registry, and other credentialing-based checks
- Proof of employment history or references (if required)
- Possession and use of vehicle if required for transportation
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully
- Ability to work in in-home and community-based settings
- Ability to provide personal care tasks as needed
- Ability to understand and support individuals’ goals and independent living skills
- Experience or ability to work with individuals with mental health or behavioral health challenges
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) for Deaf/Hard of Hearing programs
