Job Summary
Direct Support Professional to counsel, assist and train individuals with developmental disabilities in personal care, travel skills, social skills, home management and life skills to maximize functioning in the community. Essential duties include supporting a safe, comfortable home environment; documenting records; assisting with home living tasks (cooking, cleaning, laundry, chores); facilitating social/community integration; providing protective oversight during activities and when interacting with individuals; and maintaining required certifications (AMAP, CPR/First Aid, SCIPR competencies) as part of probation and ongoing professional development. Roles require the ability to perform physical care tasks, use proper lifting techniques, and adapt to behaviors requiring safe intervention; employment is in a Brooklyn, NY setting with potential variability in shifts.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid NYS Driver’s License
- Must complete AMAP during probationary period and maintain AMAP certification
- Ability and willingness to obtain CPR certification and First Aid
- Ability and willingness to obtain SCIPR Competencies and advance to Promote Competencies
