Direct Care Worker (Caregiver)

Job Summary
Provide personal care and related services in the home under the direction of staffing and nursing personnel, following the plan of care to maintain good hygiene and a safe environment. Plan and prepare nutritious meals, assist with ambulation and therapy processes, and encourage independence through activities of interest. Offer emotional support, establish trust with participants and families, and report changes in physical or mental condition. Perform routine housekeeping tasks and attend required in-services while confirming weekly visit schedules. Must be able to drive or access homes not routinely wheelchair accessible, with physical dexterity to lift up to 30 pounds and move up to 250 pounds. Requires a high school diploma, specific training certification, a clean criminal background check, and the ability to comprehend personal care, housekeeping, and meal preparation basics.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of one of the following: a.) Minimum training meeting the requirement of HLTL, DOH, and CHHC b.) Training program developed by the agency which meets the criteria set forth in PA Code 611.55 Chapter 52 c.) Nurse aid certification and training program sponsored by the PA Department of Education
- Nurse aid certification and training program sponsored by the PA Department of Education
- Free from health problems that may be injurious to participant/consumer, self and co-workers
- Complete criminal background check
- Ability to comprehend the basics of personal care, housekeeping and meal preparation
- Ability to understand and respect participant/consumer including ethics and confidentiality of care
- Ability to drive and/or the ability to access consumer's homes which may not be routinely wheelchair accessible
- Sufficient hearing, eyesight and physical dexterity to perform a physical assessment of the participant/consumer's condition and to perform participant/consumer care
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach and move participant/consumer weight up to 250 pounds
- Ability to lift or carry up to 30 pounds
