Job Summary
Develop and execute a regional strategy to advance tree equity across Washington, Oregon, and Idaho by building partnerships with municipalities, state agencies, and community organizations. Deliver hands-on technical assistance to help cities prioritize, plant, manage, and protect urban trees, while co-leading the Washington State Tree Equity Collaborative to foster shared visions and resource adoption. Identify and pursue public and private funding opportunities to support regional initiatives and manage project budgets and narratives through Airtable and Microsoft Office tools. Serve as the regional expert on urban forestry, tree species, and community dynamics, conducting outreach at conferences and maintaining engagement portfolios with priority focus on Washington State Tree Equity Collaborative participants and Catalyst Fund grantees. This remote role requires up to 25% travel and reports to the Senior Director, Urban Forestry Field Delivery.
Required Qualifications
- 5-7 years of professional urban forestry experience in the Pacific Northwest
- established relationships with municipal and state agencies
- established relationships with state urban and community forestry councils
- established relationships with regional coordinators
- established relationships with USFS regional foresters
- established relationships with community-based organizations
- established relationships with funders
- degree in urban forestry, urban planning, landscape architecture, environmental science, or a related field
- strong knowledge of urban forest planning
- strong knowledge of canopy assessment
- strategies for equitable community-based urban forestry
- Advanced knowledge of American Forests' tree equity tools and resources
- Ability to translate technical knowledge for diverse audiences
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders
