Job Summary
Director-level Lead Software Engineer role on Morgan Stanley’s FRPPE Tech team focusing on Java full-stack development and ETL design within a Risk Technology context. The role involves designing, implementing, testing and maintaining ETL components (SQL and internal ETL framework, Java/Scala on Spark, Morphir Rule Engine) and working with a Finance Data Warehouse built in Teradata. Responsibilities include business/data analysis with clients, defining features with product management, ensuring quality through unit testing and documentation, and optimizing performance and scalability for large-scale deployments. Required skills include modern web UI frameworks (React/Angular), backend Java or Python, Teradata/Snowflake experience, RESTful APIs and microservices, cloud-native architectures, CI/CD and Agile practices, UNIX scripting, and familiarity with BFSI/finance industry.
Required Qualifications
- 5–8 years of professional software development experience
- Strong experience with modern web UI frameworks such as React or Angular
- Solid backend development skills in Java or Python
- Proficiency in working with Teradata and/or Snowflake
- Ability to collaborate with design and product teams to deliver intuitive user experiences
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architecture
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and agile development practices
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Experience or interest in Generative AI is a strong advantage
- Experience in Database development (SQL queries, Data Modelling, Stored Procedures, Index, Performance Tuning)
- Teradata experience preferred
- DevOps tooling including unit/functional testing in a developer capacity
- UNIX experience: basic UNIX and shell commands; scripting is a plus
- Job scheduler tools: AutoSys experience preferred
- Exposure to BFSI/finance industry preferred
- Proven experience across both frontend and backend development
- At least 4+ years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
