Job Summary
Serve as employment counsel for Ameriprise India, providing strategic legal advice on a full range of employment law issues common to large U.S. public companies. Proactively identify employment law risks and partner with stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies. Support Employee Relations on complaint/hotline investigations and advise on compliance with the PoSH Act and other applicable laws. Monitor changes in employment laws and communicate updates to Human Resources to drive operational adjustments. Strategically manage employment litigation in India, including leading relationships with external counsel. Ensure India operations comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in partnership with General Counsel subject matter experts.
Required Qualifications
- LLB or LLM degree from a reputable institution with excellent academic credentials
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years providing employment law advice, with experience in advising multinational corporations
- Ability to build internal relationships and operate effectively with large multi-stakeholder cross-functional partners at all levels in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding client-service focus and technical mastery to convey complex legal principles clearly and concisely in order to develop solutions and facilitate decision making
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and efficiently
- Ability to manage confidential, sensitive information
- Resilient, results-oriented, and collaborative
- Unquestioned integrity and professionalism
- Good oral and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as an in-house counsel for a Fortune 500 company
