Job Summary
Independently plan, develop, and direct nutritional care activities for Veterans with complex medical needs, including those with bariatric surgery candidates. Diagnose nutrition-specific problems by gathering data and implement individualized medical nutrition therapy plans. Evaluate intervention outcomes, revise care as conditions change, and provide nutrition counseling to individuals and groups. Manage the VA MOVE Weight Management Program, conduct group education classes, and serve as the nutrition expert on the interdisciplinary treatment team. Respond to medical emergencies within the clinic and adapt education materials to patient cultural and medical situations. Requires current CPR/BLS certification and an advanced practice credential.
Required Qualifications
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software
- Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
- Computer maneuverability
- Detail oriented
- Ability to multi-task
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN)
- Bachelor's Degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university
- Completed a didactic program in dietetics accredited by ACEND/CADE
- Minimum of one (1) advanced practice credential relevant to the area of practice (Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), Board Certified Specialist in Renal Nutrition (CSR), Board Certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition (CSG), Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), or Board Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO))
- Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) as confirmed with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
- National Provider Identifier (NPI)
- Moderate physical activity
- Ability to handle average-weight objects up to 25 pounds
- Ability to stand and/or walk for more than four (4) hours per day
- Ability to respond to any medical emergency within the clinic, where a fast walk or job may be necessary to provide assistance
Desired Qualifications
- One (1) year of recent experience clinical nutrition practice experience
