Job Summary
Assess patients' nutritional needs and current health plans to develop and implement nutrition care plans and education. Work with physicians and health care personnel to evaluate health, environmental, and cultural factors influencing patient nutritional needs. Create individualized dietary recommendations for individuals and groups managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, wasting syndrome, hypertension, and obesity. Educate patients and families on nutritional principles, dietary plans, modifications, and healthy food preparation. Instruct clients on using nutritional supplements, vitamins, and weight gain products for chronic disease management. Coordinate nutrition counseling services and plan training programs in dietetics, nutrition, and institutional management for staff and the public.
Required Qualifications
- Must currently be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Must hold a valid license to practice dietetics in the State of Texas
- BLS/CPR required
- Have a thorough understanding of the principles and practices of medical nutrition therapy
- Have a thorough understanding of the medical management of chronic health conditions
- Have a thorough understanding of allied services
- Demonstrate a special interest in the area of community medicine
- Ability to relate to and educate patients and clients from culturally diverse communities/backgrounds
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
