Job Summary
Provide assistance to the cook in meal preparation and service, set up dining rooms, and serve residents at scheduled times. Wash and store dishes, follow cleaning schedules, and assist in receiving and storing food and supplies. Perform defined work routines using dietary utensils and equipment while adhering to Federal, State, and facility policies. Report supply needs, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to the supervisor. Demonstrate moderate computer literacy for online documentation and follow infection control procedures. Work flexible hours, including emergencies, while lifting up to 40 pounds and tolerating temperature changes.
Required Qualifications
- Must have or obtain Food Handler's Card
- Must be able to stand and walk intermittently throughout the working day
- Must be able to Reach, stoop, bend, lift, carry, and manipulate various food products, dietary supplies and equipment
- Must be able to lift, push, and carry 40 pounds with 2 hands
- Must be able to lift, push, and carry 20 pounds with 1 hand
- Must be able to work with chemicals and cleaning agents
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to temperature and humidity changes as in entering refrigerated storage areas, working at ovens, ranges, dishwashing machines, and at steam tables
- Must be free from infectious diseases
- Must demonstrate a moderate level of computer literacy in order to use and access our systems and tools within our facilities to complete online tasks and documentation
- Must be able to effectively communicate and interact professionally with staff and residents
- Must be knowledgeable of Federal, State, and Facility's rules, regulations, policies and procedures as it relates to safe food handling
- Numerical ability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals
- Motor coordination and manual dexterity are required for various work routines such as preparing food items, serving trays, handling soiled dishes, operating dietary equipment and cleaning work area
- Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during an emergency situation
- Must be patient and tolerant toward staff, residents, and family members
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions, follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments in English
- Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions
Desired Qualifications
- High school graduate preferred
- Previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred
