Job Summary
Set up trays with proper dishes, glasses, cups, and eating utensils, including correct assistive feeding devices. Prepare hot and cold foods and beverages for residents' meals following recipes and posted menus for regular, modified, and therapeutic diets. Serve food for meal delivery by reading tray cards to check for allergies, food likes/dislikes, and specific instructions, then placing correct food types, amounts, and textures. Add condiments and recheck items to ensure residents receive the correct diet. Clean food preparation utensils, dishes, and areas after use while following posted cleaning schedules and infection control policies. Assist with social dining/meal service if required and prepare nourishments. React appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations while maintaining confidentiality and demonstrating respect for resident rights.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to read, speak and understand English
- Ability to follow directions and complete tasks assigned
- Ability to follow time schedules for meal preparation and serving
- Dependability
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which includes an annual TB screening and physical examination
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to bend, squat, push, stoop and pull
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Must be able to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, and volume
- Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills
- Must be empathetic
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, responsible parties, staff and outside resources and agencies
Desired Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred
- Experience in working in kitchen of communities or institutions that provide meals to large groups of people on a daily basis is preferred
