Job Summary
Diesel Truck Technician/Mechanic responsible for the effective repair of medium and heavy-duty vehicles at Michigan Kenworth. Perform corrective and preventative maintenance, diagnose electrical, drivetrain, HVAC, brake, engine, and suspension issues, and document repairs on repair orders with clear, detailed descriptions. Use diagnostic equipment to locate faults, interpret test results, obtain supervisor approval for repairs, and coordinate with parts to procure necessary components. Conduct road tests to verify repairs and communicate results to customers and shop staff. Maintain accuracy in labor tracking, provide professional customer interactions, assist other technicians as needed, and uphold safety and quality standards. Requires formal technical training (or equivalent experience), CDL, strong communication, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
Required Qualifications
- Formal technical training degree, certificate or diploma or equivalent work experience
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and clean driving record
- High School Diploma or Associate's degree preferred
- Ability to read and interpret shop repair order forms, repair manuals, electrical schematics and various other technical bulletins
- Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and computer basics (Windows)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work 8-12 hour days in variable environmental conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
