Job Summary
Diagnose and repair major components including engines, transmissions, clutches, and hydraulic/air brake systems without supervision. Perform overhaul of major parts, recondition equipment for trade-ins, and prepare new units for delivery. Execute preventive maintenance services, road test vehicles to verify functionality, and identify warrantable repairs for documentation. Use hand and power tools to adjust brakes, replace assemblies, and raise heavy equipment with jacks or hoists. Maintain work area safety and inspect critical systems like steering and suspension.

- Ability to diagnose and repair heating/air conditioning systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair instruments and gauges
- Ability to perform preventative maintenance service
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of Engines (gas and diesel)
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of power train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, PTO's and wheel ends
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of electrical systems including starters and alternators
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of HVAC systems
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of steering systems
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, injectors, cooling system
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of brake systems including ABS
- Proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of suspension systems (spring and air)
- Ability to identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
- Ability to perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
- Ability to identify warrantable repairs
- Ability to use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments
- Ability to use power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
- Ability to inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts
- Ability to perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
- Ability to adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
- Ability to raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists
- Ability to inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges
- Ability to examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices
- Ability to inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
- Ability to specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components
