Job Summary
Diesel Tractor Mechanic responsible for intermediate-level maintenance, service, and repair of tractors and equipment. Roles include troubleshooting, completing work orders, and ensuring units meet JB Hunt specifications. Duties span preventative maintenance, parts replacement, and OE repairs across systems such as fuel, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, and air brake systems; may involve mentoring trainees, participating in OE training, and adhering to shop safety. Role may require outdoor work and multi-shift hours including nights/weekends, with potential overtime; tools must be provided by the employee in most locations. Qualifications emphasize 1-2 years of semi-tractor maintenance/repair or equivalent experience, A/C certification, and DOT/FHWA inspections experience; preferred include High School Diploma or GED; strong communication skills; ability to work independently or on a team; ability to read English and meet physical requirements. The role is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship; compensation may include bonuses and benefits; nationwide relocation possibilities exist.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years of age with 1-2 years of experience in Semi-Tractor maintenance and repair and/or training and/or military equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A/C Certification
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes
- Basic tools are required to successfully perform this role
- These tools must be supplied by the employee in most locations
- Employees without their own tools may obtain them through a toolbox purchase program
