Job Summary
Diesel Technician B at Herc Rentals responsible for maintaining preventative maintenance across Herc-owned fleet at the Sterling, VA branch, diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, engines, hydraulics, electrical and fuel systems, and training junior mechanics. Key duties include performing regular preventative maintenance, testing equipment to ensure quality standards, completing repairs with minimal supervision, entering work orders, ordering parts, generating service reports, and adhering to branch, regional, and national SOPs. Requires strong mechanical knowledge, ability to interpret schematics, use diagnostic tools, and effective communication; physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a branch environment. Required Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in heavy equipment repair
- Ownership of sufficient hand and air/electric tools
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to understand detailed technical schematics, owner manuals, and product warning labels
- Ability to operate and test equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, portable and stationary generators, hydraulics, pumps and assorted tools
- Computer skills to support entering information into systems
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
- Ability to drive/operate multiple types of vehicles and equipment
- Ability to follow up with customers in a timely manner
- Ability to handle assorted tools properly and safely
- Attention to detail
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding the importance of time management
