Job Summary
Diesel Technician (All Levels) responsible for repair and diagnosis of truck and trailing equipment under the shop manager, performing Preventive Maintenance, tire service, and service/repair tasks. Duties include inspecting and diagnosing diesel engines and powertrain components (differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel ends), electrical systems (starters, alternators, ECMs, sensors), HVAC, steering, brakes (ABS & air disk brakes), suspension, and after-treatment devices (DPF/DOC). Tasks also cover electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance, vehicle diagnosis, reconditioning for trade-ins, DOT inspections, and maintaining safety practices and SOPs. Requires DOT certifications (annual vehicle inspector and brake inspector) and ability to travel for training. Tools and maintenance software data entry are essential, along with customer service to drivers and maintaining inventory and tool care.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance preferred.
- Vocational / technical or certification preferred.
- Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
- Working knowledge of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards and industry practices.
- Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in the use of shop tools required.
- Team player with excellent communication skills.
- Clean MVR and able to operate service truck.
- A valid Driver’s license is required- CDL class A (with air brake endorsement) preferred.
- Basic computer skills to enter data into maintenance software system is required.
- Results orientated with the ability to work with minimal supervision in non-climate-controlled environment required.
- Ability to travel as needed for various training required.
- Must have own tools (hand and pneumatic) sufficient to do any job that is required.
