Job Summary
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair fleet equipment safely by conducting failure analysis, performing general overhauls, and disassembling components. Operate and inspect mechanical systems to identify defects, then plan work procedures using technical manuals and experience. Document all labor lines and parts into the repair order computer system while maintaining a clean, safe work environment. Inform management of housekeeping opportunities, broken tools, or unsafe practices, and suggest corrective actions. Complete work orders correctly and perform preventive maintenance on heavy trucks and semi-trailers. Travel to other shop locations when staff is needed and handle additional essential tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Two years' verifiable experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair OR a technical school degree, or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable experience
- A valid state-issued driver's license
- Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
- Command of English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in the repair and maintain a variety of heavy trucks and semi-trailers and other mechanical equipment
- Basic hand tools
- Must have working knowledge of the operating principles of diesel engines and repair of heavy trucks
- Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to communicate to both internal and external customers
- Computer skills needed for diagnostics
- Must consent to the use of driver-facing event recorders in our fleet to promote the safety of our employees and the public
- Must be able to work a varied schedule based on need
- Overtime may be necessary during peak periods
- Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Subject to both internal and external environmental conditions
- Subject to: standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching
Desired Qualifications
- A CDL, ASE and State and/or Federal inspection certification is preferred but not required
