Job Summary
Assist and train Technicians while providing customer service to daily clients and delivering feedback to the Service Manager for performance appraisals. Oversee parts distribution and inventory, manage shop reporting, warranty recovery, and unit tracking, and handle payroll administration as directed by the Supervisor. Perform advanced skilled repairs on heavy-duty vehicles, including major engine work, diesel after-treatment, and fuel injection systems, while reading codes and using maintenance computerized programs to create reports. This Technician In Charge role supports the broader shop team and requires a valid CDL Class A, with the ability to obtain it within six months. Candidates must meet Tech II through Tech IV qualifications, possess six months of supervisory or training experience, and be proficient in SMO, SBT, and payroll systems.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- Basic tools
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including: Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work
- Diagnostics and repairs, including AC, electrical systems
- Advanced skilled level repairs to include some major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs
- Must be able to read codes and instructions on the computer
- Must have computer experience in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, internet and other related
- Must have minimum tool requirement
- Maintenance computerized programs in order to create reports or communicate with customers, vendors and company representatives
- Must have a Valid Driver's License and the ability to meet Ryder's driving qualifications
- Must meet at minimum Tech II up to Tech IV qualifications plus a minimum of 6 months supervisory or training experience
- Ability to work flexible schedules including shift work, weekends, holidays and on-call rotations for roadside assistance
- Must be proficient in SMO, SBT, payroll system, warranty recovery and employee handbook
- Must have a thorough understanding of Unit utilization procedures
- Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder Drug Test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder Background and Motor vehicle check including Drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
- Four (4) years or more Relevant work experience, preferred
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
- All other certification as required by location, required
- Internal Candidates: Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 months in their current position and possess a record of good performance, attendance, safety and teamwork
