Diesel Mechanic / Technician

Job Summary
Diagnose, repair, and overhaul diesel and gas engines, trucks, and buses in accordance with factory specifications and manufacturer standards. Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes and lubrication, while disassembling and reconditioning components like pistons, bearings, and transmissions. Inspect brake systems, suspension, and steering; rewire ignition and lighting; and operate specialized tools including hydraulic jacks and valve-grinding machines. Test drive vehicles to confirm proper operation after repairs and accurately complete repair orders and service documentation. Communicate clearly with customers regarding service findings and recommendations, maintaining a professional appearance and adhering to all safety regulations and environmental laws.
Required Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree in Diesel/Heavy Equipment or equivalent experience
- 2–3 years of diesel equipment repair experience
- Prior dealership or heavy equipment repair experience preferred
- Strong troubleshooting skills with diesel/heavy equipment systems
- Solid knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, transmissions, electrical, and fuel systems
- Ability to read and comprehend written and verbal repair instructions
- Proficient computer skills for diagnostics, documentation, and communications
- Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license
- Must maintain a clean driving record and professional personal appearance
- Position is physically demanding, requiring frequent lifting and transporting of parts weighing up to and/or exceeding 70 pounds
- Required use of dealership-provided uniforms and personal protective equipment
- Must participate in training, performance reviews, and corrective action processes when applicable
Desired Qualifications
- Coursework in diesel or heavy equipment repair may substitute with equivalent work experience
- Prior dealership or heavy equipment repair experience preferred
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license; CDL preferred
