Diesel Mechanic

Job Summary
Perform repair and maintenance on the vehicle fleet per company schedules and driver inspection reports, including diagnosing issues, replacing components, and adjusting fluids and filters. Overhaul electrical, air, and brake systems, conduct roadside repairs when qualified, and ensure all safety devices function correctly. Complete adjustments, maintain accurate maintenance records, and perform routine housekeeping duties while professionally interacting with customers. Work rotating shifts including nights and weekends, lifting up to 75 lbs, and operate in varying weather conditions. This role supports Rumpke's mission to deliver waste and recycling solutions to millions of residents through safe, operational truck fleets.
Required Qualifications
- Experience using repair manuals, wiring (electrical) diagrams, and schematics necessary to troubleshoot or repair vehicle or component failure
- Must possess the necessary tools to perform assigned tasks
- Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of the service area, as well as a test drive
- Good mechanical aptitude for vehicle maintenance and repair
- Ability to complete necessary paperwork (hard copies or electronically)
- Ability to understand and comply with all safety related requirements and standards
- Experience repairing and performing maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engines
- In-depth knowledge of truck components and systems
- Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
- Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 75 lbs
- Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
- Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
- Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
- Continuously stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
- Frequently climbing and/or balancing
- Rarely sitting
- Continuously standing/walking
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste
- Ability to travel between offices, as required
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
- Valid driver's license (if applicable)
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
- Must be able to read and speak the English language
Desired Qualifications
- Experience repairing and performing maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engines preferred
- In-depth knowledge of truck components and systems is preferred
