Job Summary
Rebuild, replace, and repair major parts on cars, light trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment (e.g., exhaust system, fuel injection, electrical systems, transmission, drive train, mechanical and air suspension, charging systems, air and hydraulic brakes); perform minor repairs (valves, tires, diesel injectors, hydraulics); install snowplow blades and repair plow assemblies; perform minor body repair; maintain EMS records for parts used and work performed; service and repair highway equipment in the field using welding equipment; diagnose performance issues in both gas and diesel engines; inspect vehicles/equipment for damage; participate in winter operations duties including snow and ice removal; operate snowplow or tow trucks and maintain daily records; perform roadside service calls when equipment is disabled; attend training and meetings; coordinate parts and tasks with Shop Foreman; ensure attendance at work sites; prior experience and a HS diploma are valued; CDL training is provided onsite; the role may involve supervisory responsibilities depending on agency needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE)
- 1+ years of relevant experience in mechanical repair or similar role
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within the first 90 days
- CDL endorsements as required by district
- Ability to operate and repair diesel and gas engines and related systems
- Willingness to participate in CDL training onsite
- Strong knowledge of safety precautions in mechanical work
- Good diagnostic skills and ability to maintain EMS records
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
