Job Summary
Diagnose, repair, recondition, and overhaul heavy earthmoving equipment in the field, including removing, disassembling, and installing components. Identify failure causes through logical troubleshooting, determine part reusability per Caterpillar guidelines, and order correct replacement parts. Clean, repair, and maintain systems while testing, measuring, and adjusting engines and hydraulics. Prepare accurate service reports, inspection appraisals, and operate machines prior to delivery. Maintain tool inventory and work with a sense of urgency to meet customer needs, including after-hours emergency calls. Requires valid driver's license, DOT/MSHA certifications, and ability to lift over 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or (GED) equivalent.
- Three years experience as an earthmoving shop technician working with heavy equipment.
- Experience on CAT heavy equipment or similar equipment.
- Proficient in mechanical systems (transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.).
- Ability to diagnose and repair CAT heavy equipment and components in the field.
- DOT and MSHA certifications required.
- Proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Strong problem solving skills and be detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to operate a service vehicle.
- Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
- Able to lift more than 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in the field without supervision.
- Must be able to work in a dynamic, fast paced service environment.
- Must have a safe working record.
- Must be able to work after hours when needed to meet customer needs.
- Flexibility and in-depth product knowledge are necessary for this position.
Desired Qualifications
- Associates degree in a related field is preferred.
- CDL License.
