Job Summary

Diesel Technician with First Student in Woolwich, ME maintains and repairs the fleet of school buses to ensure safety, reliability, and on-time transportation. Responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance, annual and safety inspections, diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, brakes, suspensions, steering, drive trains, transmissions, clutches, electrical systems, and other components; completing work orders accurately; assisting with mobile road calls and emergency repairs; maintaining a clean, safe work environment; and collaborating with technicians and location leadership to maximize fleet availability. The role requires a valid driver’s license, CDL Class B (or ability to obtain within 60 days), a mechanic’s tool set, and willingness to pursue ASE certifications; OSHA/DOT-related compliance and safety-sensitive expectations apply.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of technical school education and hands-on experience.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • CDL Class B, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire (company-paid training provided).
  • Must possess a mechanic’s tool set to perform assigned duties.
  • Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and pay incentives provided).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
