Job Summary

Read job orders and diagnose malfunctions in trucks by listening to operation and observing equipment. Repair or replace failed components including transmissions, engines, hydraulic systems, steering, and brakes. Troubleshoot electrical problems and service equipment by greasing, changing oils, and welding necessary parts. Operate shop tools, air tools, cutting torches, and service or tow trucks as required. Maintain safety protocols, comply with US DOT regulations, and ensure equipment is secured before work begins. Perform duties individually or in groups while maintaining professional relationships with employees, suppliers, and customers to ensure timely problem resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • Two-year college or technical school
  • six months to one-year related experience
  • related training
  • equivalent combination of education and experience
  • knowledge of mechanical functioning of various components on the equipment
  • ability to work with others in group situations
  • ability to work in varying positions, either crawling under and/or laying on their back on top of or on a wheeled unit for various lengths of time
  • ability to work with wrenches and/or tools
  • ability to do various jobs utilizing proper body mechanics
  • ability to understand written instructions and/or problems written up concerning necessary repairs required for various equipment malfunctions
  • ability to understand service/repair manuals relating to equipment/parts on which would be worked
  • Computer keyboard skills
  • ability to learn through training
  • DOT inspector training certificate (upon request)
