Diesel Fleet Mechanic Technician III

Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive preventive maintenance inspections and expert diagnostics on all fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, and lift-gates, to maximize safety and reliability. Perform required FAI/CVI annual inspections and execute repairs for engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and HVAC components per manufacturer specifications. Address Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups timely and document all work performed on work orders. Mentor Fleet Technician I and II staff and assume moderate supervisory roles when managers are unavailable. Complete electrical repairs and welding projects as needed while adhering to DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • Medium / Heavy Duty truck technical training
  • 2-year school and 4 years of experience
  • 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair
  • Annual Inspector Certification
  • Brake Inspector Certification
  • ASE certifications & Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks
  • EPA section 608 (Core & Type II) and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification
  • Expert knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and components
  • Expert knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment
  • Expert knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of refrigeration systems
  • Expert knowledge and skill in Preventive Maintenance Inspections and repair
  • Expert knowledge of all DOT (FMCSA) regulations
  • Proficient in electrical meter testing
  • Knowledge of controls and electric (DC (distribution center) low voltage
  • Electric motor knowledge (DC)
  • Complete electrical repairs and welding projects as needed
  • Moderate knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG)
  • Moderate computer skills and knowledge
  • Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • Moderate knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers
  • Ability to operate various pieces of equipment
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, reach
  • Ability to push/pull
  • Ability to lift /carry
  • Ability to grasp tools
  • Ability to perform Repetitive motion: wrenches and hand tools
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl
  • Excellent hand and finger dexterity
  • Must be available for evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call
  • Must be able to occasionally travel to other Operating Companies or the corporate office
