Diesel Fleet Mechanic Technician I

Job Summary

Perform quality preventive maintenance inspections, FAI/CVI inspections, and maintenance repairs on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, converter dollies, lift-gates, and light-duty equipment under the guidance of Fleet Technician II, III, or supervisors. Diagnose malfunctions in engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, and hydraulic components to prevent breakdowns and reduce vehicle downtime. Address driver vehicle inspection reports timely and document all work using complaint, cause, and correction formats. Learn to operate Sysco computer programs and follow federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for all inspections and repairs.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training 2-year school
  • Basic knowledge and skill of all vehicle systems and components
  • Basic knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge
  • Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software for OEM's and component manufacturers
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl
  • Ability to sit
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100lbs
  • Excellent hand and finger dexterity

  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training 2-year school
  • Annual Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Brake Inspector Certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • ASE certifications – Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks
  • 609 HVAC Certification
