Job Summary
DHS Floater Advocate provides crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking at the Family Justice Center and supports DHS-linked offices. Responsibilities include advocating, conducting short-term crisis interventions, safety planning, needs assessments, goal setting, facilitating referrals (including Temporary Restraining Orders), information and referral to community resources, parenting referrals, accompaniment and transportation, and serving as a first point of contact for survivors with warm hand-offs to on-site providers. The role involves legal advocacy and court accompaniment via video court, collaboration with DHS staff, mobile advocacy across community partners, and contributing to a team-based advocacy model. It requires bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities and the willingness to travel, with some duties requiring use of a personal vehicle. Location: Oregon City, OR.
Required Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
- Experience supporting survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and/or sexual assault
- Case management or advocacy-based experience preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of domestic and sexual violence and its effects on survivors, their children, and society
- Understanding of child abuse issues
- Demonstrated understanding of systems of oppression and culturally responsive service delivery
- Enthusiasm for working with public and private systems (law enforcement, DHS, courts, education, etc.)
- Reliable transportation; ability to travel throughout Clackamas County and the Greater Portland Area
