DevOps Engineering Generalist Co-op

Job Summary

Conduct daily DevOps engineering tasks including Git workflows, cloud deployments, and infrastructure-as-code automation using JavaScript, Python, and compiled languages. Troubleshoot technical issues independently by digging into systems from first principles and resolving root causes. Collaborate on projects using shared codebases, deploy websites, and automate tasks with scripts in a Linux shell environment. Work full-time Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm in our Philadelphia office, with occasional evening or weekend work as duties demand.

Required Qualifications

  • Git experience, including basic workflows (branching, merging, pull requests)
  • Collaborative project experience: Has built at least one personal project with another person using a shared codebase (Git collaboration)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills: Demonstrated ability to break down and resolve technical issues independently
  • Has written code in each of the following categories (depth in one is fine, but must have at least touched the others): JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, A declarative language or tool (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Dockerfiles, NixOS config, CloudFormation), A compiled language (e.g., Java, C, C++, C#)
  • Has deployed or stood up a website of any kind (personal blog, static site, web app, etc.)
  • Has used at least one cloud provider (e.g., AWS, Azure, GitHub Pages, Cloudflare, Oracle Cloud)
  • Comfortable in a Linux shell environment
  • Has automated a task with a script (Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel
  • Residence in Eastern time zone preferred
  • More experience with TypeScript
  • Has played Factorio or Satisfactory (or similar games that require systems thinking and optimization)
  • Enjoys reading tech/process books (e.g., The Goal, The DevOps Handbook)
  • Azure experience specifically
  • Can explain JavaScript's prototypical inheritance
  • Plays strategic board games (e.g., Chess, Go, Risk, Axis & Allies)
  • Enjoys using or writing in Markdown
  • Interest in diagram/code-based visual tools (e.g., PlantUML, Graphviz, Matplotlib, R)
  • Familiarity with functional programming concepts
  • Docker experience
  • Background or coursework in statistics or probability
  • Has a home lab or tinkers with tech at home
  • Punctuality and timely attendance to external client and internal stakeholder needs
  • This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5pm
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
